Thai food!!!
Is sooo good! It only costs 30-40 baht (40 baht= 1 dollar) to eat each meal at stands which usually serve pat thai, noodle soups, or barbeque.
A very popular dish is fried rice with egg and whatever meat you choose: usually pork, chicken, or beef. There is usally some green hot peppers, cilantro, and is served with a fish/hot pepperĀ sauce on the side. It’s really yummy, and very filling.
Noodles come in every color! Pink, green, clear, white… They are usually served in a spicy broth w/ veggies and a mixture of different meats. The meats are tricky sometimes. Chicken is usually safe, and so is beef, but the pork and fish a lot of times seems like a mixture type thing. It has the texture of bologne, and I think it is the same type of concept. Ew, I think this part is gross… especially the fish.
Barbeque is simple and yummy! Every meat you can imagine on a stick! Three pieces of seasoned meat with one hot pepper and a piece of pineapple. All the types of meat are real meat usually not imitation meat like what I said above. They are 10 baht (about twenty five cents) a stick.
The street markets are packed with stands selling all types of concotions of the above ingredients. There is a lot of fish but since most of it has the heads on it I steer clear. Today I did eat squid on a stick though, but it was too spicy for me. They also sell fresh fruit, and there are still a million I have not tried. Crazy looking spiky fruits of all different colors!
Today Jess and I explored the market together, that is what inspired this post!
On a more serious note, I started at the other center today making stationery and jess worked with in the other one with jewelry. It was my first day in center 1, and it was kind of hard. The girls are all younger, and harder to connect with. I can tell they really need guidance though. Most of them have not worked in the bars but if they did not work at The Well that is where they would have to go. I think the women that have worked in the bars have been very broken by it, and now they are very open. The teens that have not experienced that are much harder to touch, but please pray that God will soften them at The Well instead of the world breaking them in the bars.
